Plans have been revealed for the transformation of Bakers Quay at Gloucester Docks including new shops, restaurants, bars and the conversion of several listed buildings into stylish apartments.
It is the latest of a number of regeneration projects to be announced recently including the bus station, an ice rink as part of the Kings Quarter scheme, and Blackfriars.
Following a very successful bank holiday weekend which saw Gloucester Docks host a tall ships festival plans to transform the derelict Bakers Quay area seem to have been welcomed by locals.
Jason Smith, chief executive of Marketing Gloucester said: “We are going to see some magnificent changes over the next couple of years… I have been talking to business recently and they are coming from London, north Staffordshire, north Wales, all over the place, because the message is getting out there that Gloucester is on the up.”
The scheme for the 3.7-acre site includes the extension of the outlet shopping centre at Downings Malthouse and more bars and restaurants along the waterfront. A drive-thru Costa has been planned along with a Premier Inn and a Brewers Fayre pub. Additional parking spaces as well as 150 residential units have also been included.”
